The “CCBSxYcpam Brain EEG Experience Workshop”, organized by the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences at the University of Macau in collaboration with the Youth Culture Promotion Association of Macao and funded by the Macao Foundation, was successfully held on July 8-9, attracting numerous primary and secondary students in Macao.
Led by Professor Yuan Zhen, Head of the Cente for Cognitive and Brain Sciences, Dr. Zhao Zhiying and UM postgraduate students, this workshop introduced brain research developments in Macao, brain plasticity, and provided interactive experience of neuroscience experiments.
Professor Yuan briefed participants on Macao’s latest brain research accomplishments. Dr. Zhao lectured on brain plasticity to deepen understanding of brain functions. Students also toured the Center’s brain imaging facilities and acted as experimenters and subjects to gain first-hand experience of research procedures and ethics. Participants said that the workshop enhanced their knowledge of local brain research and hoped for more similar opportunities. The students are encouraged to study hard, pursue expertise, and contribute to Macao and China’s progress in leading-edge fields like AI and neuroscience.
According to Ms. Lei Keikei, Research Assistant of CCBS and the coordinator of his joint workshop, the aims of the workshop were fostering interest in brain science, attracting future researchers, and cultivating diverse talent to promote industry growth in Macao. She hoped the experience would broaden students’ future education and career options. Ycpam’s support for the workshop is greatly appreciated.
