The University of Macau (UM) today (15 March) signed an agreement with the Hengqin New Area Management Committee. According to the agreement, UM will establish a base through the Zhuhai UM Science and Technology Research Institute to demonstrate the research achievements and research capacity of its three state key laboratories, many of which are the results of collaboration between industry, universities, and research institutes. According to UM Rector Yonghua Song, the collaboration aims to take advantage of the opportunities brought about by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and increase the quality of collaboration in the area.

The agreement signing ceremony was held in the Inno Valley HQ and the agreement was signed by Rector Song and Yang Chuan, president of Hengqin New Area Management Committee. According to the agreement, UM will establish a base that will include five research centres, in microelectronics, Chinese medical sciences, smart city technology, medicine, and advanced materials, respectively, as well as a training centre for financial and business professionals.

The Zhuhai UM Science and Technology Research Institute is an entity through which UM connects with academic institutes, government departments, and industry practitioners in mainland China. Established and wholly controlled by UM, the institute aims to commercialise research results developed by UM through collaboration between industry, universities, and research institutes.
