On 25th March, the UM-GDIIST Joint Workshop on Brain Sciences was successfully organized by the Guangdong Institute of Intelligence Science (hereinafter referred as “GDIIST”) and co-organized by the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences of the University of Macau (hereinafter referred as “CCBS”) in Hengqin Island of Zhuhai. Around a hundred participants attended the workshop, including principal investigators of GDIIST, young researchers, and professors and students from UM. Twelve presentations by the PI of both institutes, and two poster sessions featuring students and young researchers were included in the agenda.

In the opening speech made by Academician Xu ZHANG, President of GDIIST and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, he expressed the intention that this Joint Workshop would provide academic exchange opportunities for our researchers, and promote the development of brain research in the Greater Bay Area and even further.

In the closing remarks, Prof. Yuan ZHEN, Head of CCBS expressed his sincere thanks to GDIIST for organising this joint workshop, and looked forward to continuing in-depth academic exchanges and research project collaboration with GDIIST.

In 2022, the University of Macau signed a collaborative framework agreement with GDIIST aiming to deepen cooperation and exchanges with education and research institutions, and to promote the academic development of relevant frontier scientific fields in the Greater Bay Area.
